PSNA Meeting January 20, 2014 North Cambridge Senior Center 2050 Massachusetts Avenue

Agenda

  • Dubliner Pub
  • Development Updates

Dubliner Pub

New owners Brian Manning, Chris Whitney, and Tom Covert (not present) recently purchased the Dubliner Pub (a.k.a. Spirit) at 2046 Mass Ave. They plan to take it somewhat upscale, with less of a sports bar atmosphere, better service, and fresh ingredients, offering small plates from all over the world in the $6-14 price range. They are currently remodeling, replacing the stools and booths with tables, and removing most of the TV screens. The bar and the screens over the bar will remain. They hope to re-open by mid-March. Brian used to manage Spirit before he took over Bull McCabe's in Union Square, a music bar and small restaurant with a similar emphasis on good food. They intend to name the new restaurant "Bull McCabe's Bar and Grill".

Development Updates

Certificates of compliance have been issued for the Slate building project (1971 Mass Ave, developer Urban Spaces), and for 18 White Street (developer Ben Rogan.) Construction on the latter is underway, as for the Kaya hotel. Developer Peter Wasserman's proposed apartment building with ground floor retail, replacing the Gourmet Express at 1868 Mass Ave, has undergone administrative permit review (it's too small to require a public Special Permit hearing). The proposed mechanical parking has been reviewed and approved by Inspectional Services. There is no word of a contractor being hired; we suspect it may remain on hold indefinitely. Significant progress is being made on the Hathaway Bakery building on Richdale Avenue. (See recent PSNA posts for new news.)
