PSNA Meeting Thursday, April 21, 7-9pm with Living Well Network Thursday, April 21, 2022 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM What makes a neighborhood comfortable and livable, now and as we age? Porter Square has many of the things we need within walking distance for most of us: banks, groceries, post office, drug store, dry cleaners, a variety of retail stores, dentists, therapists and restaurants offering food from around the world, and every price range. What else do we need to attract here? But what about the things we don’t have right here in our neighborhood? What if your medical appointments are in the Longwood area? How do you get to Whole Foods, Trader Joes, Wilson Farms, much less slept those groceries back home? What if friends and family are close, but not that close? What are your options? Just as a thought exercise study the attached graphic adapted, from an 1988 paper as the "social-ecological model for health", from PSNA member, Stephanie Galaitsi, who says, "I like this figure because it shows the different factors that contribute to resilience in aging, and how they are nested. Transportation is part of the environment that humans design for ourselves, and that's the category that we as a society actually have a bit of control over, though some of the other categories have aspects we can control as well." Do you agree, have other thoughts? What are the transportation (or other) needs of the people who live here? What are some things we can do on a local level to improve access (and even eco-friendly delivery) for people of all ages in our neighborhood with a special focus on maintaining livability as we age. Kathy Dalton, Manager of The Living Well Network will join us to lead a wide-ranging discussion of our needs, our ideas, and some possible solutions.
